Welcome to Grade Six, Junior Division!

We are currently reading lots of information about the solar Canada's involvement with global issues. These include child poverty, child labour, clean water, equity and political will.
Our students are encouraged to evaluate information based on research and facts presented. Where do the authors find the facts? What point of view is being presented? Is there a point of view which is missing?
These are large topics, and help to develop views of the world that might last a lifetime. Building empathy involves critical thinking.
One of the important articles we read told us that for every problem, there is a solution. We heard about the town of Kerala in India where political will made a difference in making education a priority. 88% of all children go on to highschool in Kerala. This is because eliminating child labour was the political will of the people there. We contrasted these facts with the statistics of child labour in a richer city of Bombay. Political will made a difference. Voice your concerns about the issues you believe in!
