Please return the IEP Parent Consultation Form. We need your input. Drafts are being prepared.
The Learning Centre serves as a resource for students and teachers. Students who need assistive technology support, such as Kurzweil, WordQ receive training to use these programs. A limited number of computers are available for students to sign out or work under teacher supervision within Room 207.
Special Education Resource Teachers, (SERTs) support students in a variety of ways. They may directly work with students in small groups, provide direction and resources for teachers so that the students work within their own grade level classroom. SERTs often assess students, make referrals, consult with other School Board Personel and parents to solve problems or find the best way of helping students achieve.
An IEP (Individual Education Plan) is usually created for students who are working below grade level, or who need particular supports or equipment to access the curriculum. IEPs are created in consultation with parents, teachers, Principal and Vice-Principal, and the student. Draft versions are developed within the first 30 days of the school year, or within 30 days of deciding that an IEP is required. Once parents and the school staff have agreed on the learning objectives, the IEP is signed. The child's marks are based on the goals of the IEP, which is a working document and can be adjusted based on regular assessment of the student's progress.
