Mrs. Amos, Torch Bearer

Mrs. Amos earned the priviledge to be an Olympic Torchbearer in Barrie, Ontario. She graciously came to Emma King School to share her experience.

Mrs. Amos said that this was one of the most proud moments in her life. She was thrilled with the chance to wear the maple leaf mitts, the "topographical" jump suit and to hold the flame of healthy competition high as she ran through the streets of Barrie.

Answering questions from many children, Mrs. Amos explained that the colours of her suit represented the colours used on maps for the elevations of the land, with white being the mountains. The mitts have a rubberized maple leaf on the palm to help grip the torch. Mrs. Amos was very passionate when explaining the joy she felt in the representing her Royal Bank Team as a torch bearer. She has always been interested in sports and in teamwork. Being a Canadian, she has a soft spot for hockey, but will view as many events as possible. Mrs. Amos admires the determination and hard work that athletes display on their road to competition.

Assembly

Our assembly continued with songs and stories. Ms. Hetherington taught the Primary grades a beautiful song about the value of music inside. Students collaborated to create a rap song about the Olympics and trying your best. Mrs. Wright, with a little help from her friends, shared a book about the power of the bystanders in defeating the tyranny of bullies. The Junior choir also presented a preview of one of the songs from the H.M.S. Pinafore. We are very lucky to have both the sports, music and drama represented! Thanks to all for your contributions.
