MESSAGE FROM THE OFFICE

We are happy to see signs of spring finally arriving, with the last of our snow hill melting this past week. Students have been enjoying the warmer weather during outdoor breaks; however, many remove sweaters and jackets while playing and inadvertently leave them behind. As a result, our Lost and Found is once again filling up. We kindly ask that you remind your child(ren) to bring home any extra layers they bring to school each day to help reduce the number of unclaimed items.

Over the coming weeks, we will be completing the remaining emergency preparedness drills required before the end of the school year. Your child may come home describing a fire, evacuation, or inclement weather drill that occurred during the day. Families picking up students during a drill may also experience this. If this occurs, we ask that you please remain at the front of the school until the drill has concluded.

Extra-curricular activities continue this month, including Intermediate Co‑Ed Rugby over the next few weeks and Intermediate Baseball tryouts near the end of the month. In addition, all Grade 4–8 students will be preparing for our school Track and Field Competition Day, scheduled for May 27.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation

Yours in Education,

Mrs. Cindy McNeice

Construction at Emma King

Over the coming months, Emma King School will be undergoing an exciting expansion to our facilities. This project will add additional classrooms to the west end of the building and is expected to continue into the 2026–2027 school year.

Construction has already begun on the west side of the school, starting with the installation of a new exterior door. This area has been securely fenced and marks the initial stage of the project. In the weeks ahead, the construction zone will expand to include the full footprint of the addition on the side of the school closest to the city park. Once this occurs, that area will be completely fenced off.

As a result, students and visitors will need to access the tarmac area at the back of the school by walking around the opposite side of the building or by the portables. These changes will also affect some student entry and exit routines. Staff have been carefully planning for these adjustments to ensure student safety and a smooth transition.

Students who currently use the west entrance will begin using an alternate entrance once that area is closed. Classroom teachers will review the new entry and exit procedures with their students and will accompany them during the initial weeks to support understanding and consistency.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as this important work gets underway. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.
